The 28th FAI World Aerobatic Championships 2015 has ended in France
58 people from 16 countries and 7 teams competed for the title of the best pilots in the world. According to the results of all completed programs and points scored in the overall standings, the Russian national team took second place in the team championship consisting of Mikhail Mamistov, Svetlana Kapanina and Oleg Shpolyansky. The French team got the gold. The Americans have bronze. The competitions were held in a fierce struggle. The main competitors of Russian athletes were: France, America, Spain, Czech Republic, England.
Russian pilots Mikhail Mamistov and Svetlana Kapanina became silver medalists in the Absolute Championship.
Mikhail has 3 silver medals and 1 bronze. Svetlana brought one more silver from France: 4 silver medals, 1 bronze. And one silver medal, in the team championship, went to Oleg Shpolyansky.
In total, the Russian national team has 10 medals in its piggy bank — 8 silver and 2 bronze.
Both French pilots, Alexander Orlovsky and Oud Lemordan, became the absolute champions. As they say, for the hosts of the competition, the sky over Chateauroux turned out to be their native element, and they demonstrated the best aerobatics.
The bronze medalists of the championship were Spaniard Castor Fantoba and American Melissa Pemberton, respectively in the men's and women's competitions.
Svetlana Kapanina: "This was the tenth World Championship in which I took part. Unfortunately, it became the only World Championship in my history without gold..."…
I would like to note that for a long time I have not seen such interest in the event and such a large number of spectators-fans, both at the competitions in Chateauroux and at the Chatelard airfield, during training flights. And the results of the competitions themselves showed that aerobatics in France enjoys interest, is developing and is very strongly supported by the army.
The organization of the championship was at a high level. We flew fast, without delays, according to the schedule. The food was very good. And only the weather made its own adjustments and we failed to play the 4th exercise.
On September 29, at the closing of the competition, a wonderful air show was held with the participation of the French aerobatic team Patrol de France. The number of spectators on this day exceeded 40,000 people and despite the 40-degree heat, people were at the airfield from early morning until the last landing of the aircraft…
Our team showed a good result, although, of course, we expected more. But as they say: "According to the size and the suit", considering that most of the team had a raid on preparations for the World Cup was close to zero, and the planes were not their own, rented with weak engines (their own stood in the hangar without a resource) and of course the difficult political situation did not pass us by either… But we are not discouraged – we will still fight for gold… We will prepare for the European Championship 2016 ... where we will meet our main rivals again...".
